A big reward is now being offered for anyone with information about a dog killer in Colorado Springs. In the past two weeks two dogs have been shot at in our area. One of the dogs was shot to death.
Terry Shattuck started the "So Much for Pets" organization. He's offering a $1,000 reward for anyone with suspect information.
"I honestly can't understand why people think that animal's lives are any less valuable than our own. Again, I thought about what if somebody did that to my own dog? I'd be devastated," explained Shattuck.
PREVIOUS 1/19: Colorado Springs police are investigating a shooting involving a dog. Officers are now trying to figure out if this most recent case is connected to another case where a dog was shot to death.
The most recent incident happened on a running trail near Kiowa and Pikes Peak Avenue in Colorado Springs. The other incident happened two weeks ago at a park near Astrozon and Jetwing on the southeast side of Colorado Springs.
Springs Police say the MO is the same. In both cases, the owner was walking their dog near a trail or park when a man came up, didn't say a word, just pulled out a gun and started shooting.
Sean Cook was out walking his 9-year-old American Bull dog Lea on Sunday night on Shooks Run Trail. As he took her off her leash, a man came walking toward them. Lea started to bark.
“I was like, 'Easy, she doesn't bite or anything like that.' All the sudden I heard a pop. It was like a 9 millimeter sound. I was amazed,” explained Sean Cook.
Cook couldn't believe the man shot at his dog and then took off. Luckily she wasn't hit. Cook called police, and officers came out and took a report. Now officers are working to figure out if this attempted shooting may be related to another dog shooting.
Just over a week ago, 11 News talked to the owner of an Australian Shepard named Sydney. The owner was playing catch with her at Penstemon Park near Astrozon and Jetwing when a man walked up and did something she never expected.
“Before I had a chance to get her to come back to me, he pulled out a gun and shot her several times."
Sydney was killed. Officers are comparing the shell casings from the shooting on Sunday night to the shooting two weeks ago to see if they are the same.
